About MBHA Rehab

MBHA Rehab founding and history

Our Story

In 2019, San Bernardino County health officials identified a sharp spike in opioid and methamphetamine overdoses among adults aged 18 to 35 across the Inland Empire. Emergency departments in Redlands, Loma Linda, and surrounding communities were overwhelmed, and existing treatment capacity fell far short of demand. A coalition of public health leaders, addiction medicine physicians, and community advocates proposed a dedicated treatment center designed specifically for this underserved population.

MBHA Rehab opened its doors at 2 Orange St in Redlands as a direct response to that crisis. The founding clinical team -- drawn from regional hospitals, university research programs, and community health organizations -- built a 68-bed campus that integrates medical detoxification, residential rehabilitation, and structured outpatient care under one roof. Every protocol was engineered around the developmental realities of young adults: career disruption, unresolved trauma, peer influence, and the neurological vulnerability of the still-maturing brain.

Seven years later, MBHA Rehab has treated more than 5,200 patients. Our staff has grown to 143 professionals, and our outcomes data consistently shows that young adults who complete our full continuum of care maintain sobriety at rates well above national benchmarks. What began as a public health initiative has become a permanent pillar of addiction treatment infrastructure in the Inland Empire.

Our Mission & Philosophy

Mission Statement

MBHA Rehab exists to make high-quality addiction treatment accessible to every young adult in the Inland Empire who needs it, regardless of insurance status or financial circumstance. We believe that clinical excellence should never be gated by economic barriers. Our mission is to deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed care that meets patients where they are -- medically, psychologically, and socially -- and equips them with the practical tools required for sustained recovery and productive reintegration into their communities.

Treatment Philosophy

Trauma-Informed Approach: Substance use disorders rarely exist in isolation. Our clinicians screen for adverse childhood experiences, PTSD, and complex trauma at intake, then weave trauma processing into every phase of treatment so that underlying wounds are addressed alongside the addiction itself.

Mind-Body Connection: Recovery demands physical restoration as much as psychological work. Our balanced-wellness schedule pairs clinical therapy sessions with fitness training, nutritionist-designed meals, sauna recovery, and reflective practices that rebuild the body's capacity for regulation and resilience.

Community Reintegration: Treatment that ends at discharge fails. MBHA Rehab builds reintegration planning into the treatment timeline from day one -- vocational coaching, sober social networks, family reconciliation work, and alumni programming ensure that patients leave with a functioning support system already in place.
